Condiman |
The musical notes of this folksong referred to as Condiman were contained in a book "Circumnavigation of the Globe by
the Austrian Frigate Novara in the Years 1857, 1858 & 1859." by
Karl von Scherzer, published in Vienna in 1864. The notes were transcribed by a Frenchman
named Balthazar Giraudier. Originating from San Miguel, Bulacan, this folksong was a popular
music of its time, describing life during the dry season, sang almost every evening by cheerful
and happy youths, accompanied by a guitar. It is heard for the first time played on the piano by
Stefan Ender, a young Austrian pianist. Arranged by Fr. Maramba, to be sung by a soprano, it
is presented for the first time in Vienna after 122 years. This folksong was discovered by
Johann Stockinger from the University of Vienna’s Institut für Völkerkunde.
